Chronicles of Forgotten Wars

Chronicles of Forgotten Wars consists of large-scale fresco paintings on canvas and ink and watercolor drawings made on the pages of Rhymes of a Red Cross Man, a war poetry book by Robert W. Service.

What began as a travel journal with drawings inside a vintage book grew into a meditation on war and nature. While reading Service’s poems in London, I was struck by a passage about finding the dead in a time of war, which inspired me to juxtapose images of English gardens with soldiers fighting and dying. Over time, the project expanded, shedding romanticized notions of war and evolving into a reflection on the grisly battle between man and nature. The work became a deeper antiwar statement, revealing the absurdity and emptiness of violence.
